Whith sound by Mattias Petersson
Pseudophobia 2 continues an earlier project, broadcast during the period December
2001 - January 2002. The concept for the project is given by Mikael Scherdin,
but this time it is Olle Huge and Mattias Petersson that develops the themes
phobias and technology. As a source of inspiration they have mentioned the
film Lost Highway by David Lynch. Like in their earlier piece within the project
it is (it was) possible to affect the broadcast by calling
+46 (0) 73 783 70 22.
Huge and Petersson here work with the fear of being under surveillance. The
movements of a surveillance camera are affected when one calls the mobile
telephone. The signals make the camera aware of our existence and it starts
to search for us. That means that we not only look at the piece of art - it
is also looking back, searching for us.
The camera becomes a very clear picture of the surveillance. Still the mobile
phone can be as effective in controlling our lives. You are always supposed
to be able to reach. If you have your mobile turned off, you should have a
good explanation why. And the first question you ask when you have called
someone is probably: “Where are you?”
